Taskforce is a shoot-em-up game by Players Software that houses metallic style graphics that are pretty good, and the game play is decent as well. It’s similar to Cybernoid, and each level consists of a few single screens with an end of level enemy to defeat. There are plenty of weapons to collect and many levels to keep you busy for a while.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
Neil: Using an infinite lives cheat and level skipper.
Vinny: I used a trainer version of the game that was actually faulty and I had to correct it! ($93E3 still had DEC, which made the lives deplete when an end of level boss killed you!). Plus – I played all the way through at double speed.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once the final bad guy is blown to bits, you are treated to an animated picture of the spaceship zooming through space with the word ‘CONGRATULATIONS‘ displayed above and the words ‘MISSION COMPLETE‘ shown below. The game then ends.
Neil: Not bad. I expected nothing at the end of this one. 4/10.
Vinny: Wow! I’ve never played this game before. It’s definitely a Cybernoid clone, and a good one at that! I enjoyed whizzing through the screens and playing through.
With regards to the ending… it’s quite nice, but unfortunately a little sparse. It’s missing a lot of ending elements, but it’s still nicely done. 3.5/10 from me.
Andy Vaisey: Not brilliant, but better than the usual ‘well done’ text screen. What I may have expected.
Brendan Phoenix: Pretty much a standard ending – more than Cybernoid which had nothing!
Andrew Fisher: I quite like that animation, but the game felt a bit flat and boring to me.
FINAL SAY: It’s ok. Better than a lot of endings I’ve seen.
