Mancopter is another little gem that I’d never played before. You control a flying bicycle, which you have to pedal through the sky by pressing the fire button on the joystick. You have to race other opponents over the sea to a designated landing pad, fighting the elements and various other obstacles. Should you crash, a whale flips you back up into the sky to re-join the race. It sounds bizarre, and it is bizarre – but it’s a cracking little game. Very original.
mancopter 1
YAAAAAAAAY 🙂
mancopter 2
The End.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Using an energy & infinite continues cheat.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?: On completing the three courses, you get awarded a trophy. There are only three of these trophies available. Once you land on the final landing pad, you get awarded the final trophy as a group of fans dance in the background while fireworks explode above them in the sky. A victory tune plays and the game loops back to level one.
COMMENTS:
Neil: Not bad at all – although there is no difference between the ending when you get awarded the first trophy. Shame there wasn’t something a bit more special to see.
Vinny: Now here’s an old looking game if ever I saw one – doesn’t really stand the test of time. It’s not a game I have bothered to play, but judging by what Neil has written, it may be one I want to check out – and soon!
As for the ending… hmmmm… I suppose it’s good for an oldie. Think I’d give it 4.5/10.
Andrew Fisher: Now, for me this is a very good game based on Joust (if you are above your opponent in a collision, you win). I only became aware of it when Commodore Format mentioned it in a later issue, but having got my brother to download it for me I was hooked. Included it in my book as well. I quite like the ending/trophy presentation sequence so a solid 5/10 from me.
Gaz Spence: I echo Vinny’s comments that the game has dated somewhat but it’s ok to pick up now and again. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending. It doesn’t blow you away but it’s cheery enough.
Brendan Phoenix: The title sounds like some gay porno flick (not that I watch many!)
Simple but effective ending.
Andy Vaisey: What an odd game. Rubbish in every way, but strangely hypnotic.
Muu….ss….t……s…t…..o…..p…….p…..lay……….in….g………
Rubbish ending to go with the rubbish game, but also strangely satisfying. How odd…
Frank Gasking: I was the same as Andrew and first found out about the game via Commodore Format towards the end of its life. They did a feature on obscure games (before the days of Gamebase64 to discover stuff) and this one stood out. I found it on a batch of pirate disks that I brought a year or so later, and was hooked.
Great little game and plenty of fun – and gets really tough later on when under the trees and trying to avoid sharks, birds and the other competitors. I think the ending also is a 5/10 because of the age of the game, its far better than most from that time.
FINAL SAY: Nice bit of animation and music. Give this one a go. I really enjoyed playing it.

G.E. RATING: 5 / 10
