Fighting Soccer by Activision is another abysmal C64 football game. Complete with unrealistic game play, poor monochrome graphics, and tiny playing area, this game is one that should never be loaded up on your C64. It’s horrible to play and very slow. There’s a tournament to play, but I can’t imagine why on earth you would want to. I played through this awful game in order to find out if there was anything at the end of it worth seeing. Somehow, I don’t think there will be…
Reminds me of ‘World of Sport’ back in the seventies…
Where’s Dickie Davies? 🙂
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I scored a few goals and ran down the clock to scrape a few victories.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?: To my surprise, an animated ending sequence loaded up. It shows an Olympic style flame burning against a blue sky while a plane flies by carrying a banner which reads ‘THANKS FOR PLAYING’.
Neil: I really didn’t expect an animated ending. It looks a little out of place though. Maybe they nicked it from some Olympic sports game. 3/10.
Vinny: WOW! I’m flabbergasted! The game is totally crud, but the ending is really cool! Okay – the the animation isn’t perfect, but it’s a nice image and a nice little ditty. 4/10 from me.
Andy Vaisey: An unexpected, but welcome ending to a biblically awful game.
Brendan Phoenix: Considering the game looked like a Speccy port, the ending scene is really nice!
Andrew Fisher: There have been some bad soccer games on the C64 and this is one of the worst, with none of the speed or fun of the arcade game it is based on. A pleasant surprise to see it has an ending, which looks like they put in some effort there compared to the rest of the game!
Gaz Spence: I haven’t played the game on account of the legion of bad reviews and comments. The ending screen is ok but compared to similar ‘ceremony’ endings seen in the Epyx games comes out a distinct second best. I think 4 out of 10 is about right.
FINAL SAY: I’m shocked! The ending is better than the game deserves.
