Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future by Box Office Software is a game I had never heard of up until a few hours ago. It sounds grand, and exciting, but it’s a very poor simulator / shoot-em-up with graphics that lack colour, and game play that lacks variety and originality.
The game starts off in a simulator style, and then becomes a horizontally scrolling shoot-em-up. The final level involves making various trips from the left side of the scrolling playing area to the right, and then back again collecting fallen satellites. Once enough trips are completed successfully the game ends…
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I poked some infinite lives and completed the game in no time at all.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?: The ending is simply a picture. It shows Captain Power holding up a gun with the words ‘CONGRATULATIONS, SOLDIER!‘ displayed above him. Pressing the fire button restarts the game.
Neil: Not a lot happening with this ending. Another one that you will soon forget after seeing it once. 2/10.
Vinny: Never played it and probably never will do. 2/10 for the ending.
Andrew Fisher: Not a powerful ending…
Brendan Phoenix: Ending pic very Robocop esque.
Andy Vaisey: Well, there’s a picture at least.
FINAL SAY: Quite poorly drawn and very dull.
G.E. RATING: 2 / 10
