Elven Warrior by Players is an action / puzzle game. I thought at first that the game was going to be crap because of the very messy graphics and dire control system (you can only jump directly up!), but I stuck at it and found it to be a decent little budget game.
You have to guide your elf through the many screens and collect four bottles to fill each of the four cauldrons. There are many enemies to avoid, weapons to use, and bonus items to collect. The difficulty though, is navigating the platforms, staying on the moving lifts and avoiding slipping off ledges to your death – made harder by the fact you can’t jump sideways. It can be frustrating but you will get the hang of it eventually. The levels are designed pretty well to cater for your clumsy elf, so it’s possible to visit all the screens and collect all the items.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I used an infinite lives cheat.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once the four bottles of potion for the cyan coloured cauldron are collected and dropped into it, the elf freezes as explosions are set off all over the screen. A message scrolls across the bottom on the screen telling you that the cauldron is now full. The elf then turns to stone, just like the other Elven statues that stand on the other side of the screen. The high score table then pops up before the game restarts.
Neil: Not too bad I suppose. I’m glad there was something at the end of this one. 4/10.
Vinny: Hmmmm… it’s a bit non-descript. Not much really going on here. I was hoping that there was going to be a great epilogue 😦 3/10 from me.
Andy Vaisey: Shame…
Brendan Phoenix: Always made me laugh when these budget labels introduced a new ‘Premier’ range – just an excuse to add a couple of quid on to a budget title! Grrrr…
Man that was a boring ending – seemed like those explosions went on for ever!
Andrew Fisher: Hmm, I’ve not played it either.. but it doesn’t look/sound very inspiring. The explosion sequence seems to go on for ages too. Very average.
Kungfufurby: Was something happening other than those explosions? That wasn’t much of an ending… unless you count turning yourself into a statue and a message on the bottom as an ending. I was expecting something extra after that… other than the high score entry.
FINAL SAY: There are explosions, sound effects, a scrolling message and a small bit of animation. It sounds far better than it is though.
G.E. RATING: 3.5 / 10
