Kendo Warrior is a cracking little budget game. The graphics and sound are excellent, and the game is half decent – if a little tricky. You control a bloke armed with a kendo sword, and your mission is to infiltrate the enemy HQ, steal some top secret documents, get to the roof and escape via helicopter. There are many enemies to chop up as you go, and there are many puzzles to solve which require you to collect the appropriate items on your travels. You will need to map this game out if you are to succeed, as the corridors are quite confusing. Overall though, you can’t fault this game as it was released for only £2.99 – an absolute bargain.
Time to make a quick exit.
Up the ladder we gooooooo.
The End.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Using an array of cheats which allowed me access to all the rooms and be invincible to all enemy attacks. (“I ripped this one to pieces and produced one of my Hackersoft crazy hacks, which included a feature to skip straight to the ending. You can download the crazy hack from HERE.” – Vinny).
SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you beat up the huge bloke at the end of the last corridor, you make your way to the roof where you have to battle a few of the enemies henchmen and guard dogs for the last time. Once you have taken care of them, a message appears to tell you that the helicopter is approaching. A ladder appears from the top of the screen which you must grab hold of. Once you do this, our kendo hero is airlifted to safety and the game is complete. A small message confirms this on the panel at the bottom of the screen. The game then goes back to the main title page.
Neil: Shame really – I wanted more! It’s not a bad ending though to be fair – for a single load, budget C64 game.
Vinny: WOW! How cool is this budget game? I’ve never actually seen or played it until Neil sent in the ending. It’s a cool game that deserves a cool ending. Unfortunately, it isn’t a brilliant ending and could have done with a little more of an epilogue, some animation, and a kicking tune. I suppose, for a budget title, it will suffice.
Andy Vaisey: A tidy enough little budget game, with at least a mildly satisfactory ending included, even though it’s not spectacular. Something to give the big boys to think about, particularly those that just loop…
FINAL SAY: It wraps the game up well, although it would have been great to see a bigger finale.
