Garfield’s girlfriend Arlene has been captured and thrown into the city pound, and now it’s up to the fat, lazy, lasagne-loving cat to go rescue her. If he can be bothered that is.. It is Monday after all, and that usually means our hero does what he does best – sleeping and eating. Garfield by The Edge is a very good adventure game with great graphics and sound. The puzzles are quite simple to work out, but are made difficult by the fact that our hero Garfield is likely to consume the contents of his inventory at any given time, whether it be a bone, tin can, a trowel or a newspaper. You have to constantly feed the feline between tasks to ensure that this doesn’t happen or the quest will come to a premature end. The game features a lot of the characters from the Garfield cartoons & books – Jim, Odie, Nermal, Arlene and of course Garfield himself. The game is quite short, but it’s a very enjoyable adventure.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Using tips from the internet and a bit of patience.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you finally get to the pound with the key, Garfield can unlock Arlene’s cage. Once she is released and Garfield approaches her the game is complete. A message of congratulations is shown which says that this Monday didn’t turn out so bad after all, and that Arlene will be forever grateful. Garfield is also shown walking back and forth at the bottom of the screen. On pressing the fire button the game restarts.
Neil: There’s a message and a little bit of animation. It’s a fair enough ending. 4/10.
Vinny: I’m probably in the minority here, but I have never been into Garfield; I just don’t get it. To me it just seems like a really boring cartoon, but I know there are millions out there who love it. Saying that, the games are great and The Edge really did the Garfield franchise some justice when creating these cool Commodore 64 games (also check out the ending to Garfield: Winter Tail)…
Anyway – a good little ending, if a little bare. Could have done with some more colour and animation. I’ll leave the scoring up to Neil 😉
Andy Vaisey: I used to like the newspaper cartoon strip ( I read it on my paper round all those years ago!) but anything else to do with Garfield sucks in my opinion. This game wasn’t bad and neither was the ending, but it never captured the ‘feeling’ cartoon strip for me…
Andrew Fisher: Not a bad game, not a bad ending… just a bit humdrum. I do like Garfield.
Brendan Phoenix: Never into Garfield either – wonder what happened to all those Garfield’s stuck to the back of car windows?
I do like the Garfield sprite on this game though but the ending pretty so so.
Gaz Spence: The ending’s pretty clunky if truth be told and I don’t like cats. 3 out of 10.
FINAL SAY: A short ending to a short, but enjoyable game.
G.E. RATING: 4 / 10
