Eliminator is a neat little shoot-em-up by Hewson. It’s quite a tricky game that relies on the player to have a good memory and a lot of luck to get through it, so that meant I only survived a few minutes. You have to blast your way through 8 levels to complete the game.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Using an infinite energy cheat.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?: You get a congratulations message and you are sent back in time… to level one.
Neil: Rubbish. The game just loops over and gives you no reason to play on. 2/10
Vinny: I know that ZZAP64 magazine only scored 74% for Eliminator, which I feel is kind of harsh. But after seeing the ending, I kind of get why they scored it so low and can now see that the programmers could have done so much better. It’s certainly a good opportunity wasted, which wasn’t what Hewson were all about. What an absolute load of poo. I would only score this a 0.5/10 and so I will compromise and make it 1/10.
Brendan Phoenix: Another sh#t ending from a Hewson game.
‘Let’s go back in time’ it states – yeah – may find a better ending there!
Gaz Spence: I struggle to think of a good Hewson ending and this one doesn’t buck the trend one bit. The game itself is a good exercise in programming but doesn’t cut the mustard playability wise.
Andrew Fisher: It was so nearly great… just a little more speed and a little more variety in the levels and this would have been a Sizzler. The ending was a real disappointment – I have managed to complete it, thanks to making some rally driver “pace notes” on which lanes to jump to.
Kungfufurby: Let’s go back in time and make a better ending than this… ^_^
Andy Vaisey: Real shame about this game. Great idea and execution on the game itself, just really boring with not quite enough excitement and action. Unfortunately, all topped off by a really poor ending.
A classic case of a missed opportunity on all fronts 😦
FINAL SAY: The less said the better about this one.
G.E. RATING: 1 / 10
