X-Terminator by Novagen is one of those games that should have been far better than it actually was.
Your aim is to rescue your fellow soldiers, and battle your way through the various levels, fighting off the aliens and collecting tons of weaponry as you go. There’s approx 16 levels to beat, all with different aliens to kill and puzzles to solve. The potential for X-Terminator to be a decent game is huge. It just fails in so many ways it’s untrue. The concept is decent, but it isn’t executed very well. The control method and animation are a bit clumsy and lifeless.
The graphics aren’t very good – they have a rough, unfinished look to them – again, something that should have been better.
Give it a shot and you will see what I mean. It’s a huge disappointment.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I used infinite lives and energy cheats.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?: At the end of the final level there’s a huge alien to beat. Once he’s blown to bits the game is over. A short message appears that tells you that victory is yours and that Starcom salutes you. Your final score is also shown and you are told to look out for the forthcoming game ‘Cybermech’.
Neil: Terrible ending to this one. I’m sure a good programmer and graphic artist could have made this one a cracking game. Shame really. 2/10.
Vinny: I remember spotting this game for the first time in GameBase 64 and wondering if it was a Dalek game (a Doctor Who reference for all you Whovians out there!). But unfortunately it wasn’t. Then I was hoping it was going to be a good game… but it appears that Neil Collins put a dampener on that thought because judging by his game review it’s a dud of a game! Oh well… plenty more fish in the sea…
As for the ending… like the game, there’s nothing there! 2/10 from me too.
Andrew Fisher: Never heard of it! Seems completely unlike Novagen’s best titles and very flawed.
I wonder what happened to Cybermech?
FINAL SAY: Seen it all before…
G.E. RATING: 2 / 10
