I don’t think I have ever owned an original copy of this game 😦 I did first play a demo of it on a cover tape (think it was Commodore Format), but I wasn’t too sure about the gameplay. Anyway, I have since played the game quite a few times and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Pity ZZAP64 magazine didn’t think so. Maybe they were bitter about the fact that they didn’t get to release the demo on their covertape 🙂 Anyway, a cool enough game with a cool enough ending…
stdragon11
The dragon finally defeats the boss.

KABOOOOOOOOOM!
stdragon13
There he goes.

GONE.
stdragon3
A nice view of space and the dragon leave the planet.

The End.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I used a superb crack from REMEMBER that gave me loads of cheats and also offered to take me straight to the end sequence. Quality!
SO WHAT HAPPENS?: The final boss explodes and then we see Saint Dragon leaving the planet and heading off home. The ending message reads: “CONGRATULATIONS ON COMPLETING ST DRAGON.”
COMMENTS:
Vinny: I expected more from this game ending. The real letdown is the fact that the music is the standard in-game tune that just carries on through the game ending. There could have also been a bit more of an epilogue. Nice final screen though.
Brendan Phoenix: Pretty much the exact ending of the arcade original – so respect for that.
Gaz Spence: Storm put out some decent conversions onto the C64 like SWIV and Rodland. St Dragon wasn’t quite as good as those two but a respectable blast nonetheless. As for the ending, I suppose we can ask for no more than a good representation of the original coin-op ending, which is what we get.
Andy Vaisey: A very average, unremarkable game which seems to lack that special ‘something’ that is accompanied by an average, unremarkable ending which, funnily enough, seems to lack that special ‘something’.
FINAL SAY: It’s an end I suppose :-/
