Sabotage by Zeppelin is an insanely hard shoot-em-up. You need to beat eight levels, all of which have end-of-level spaceships to battle. You must collect a part of the blueprint from the colonist in the sub-game between levels that takes place on the planet surface. The shoot-em-up part is rock solid, and will put many a player off this game – even though there are only a few patterns to the waves of enemies you encounter. Of course you need to play this game a long time to find that out. The sub-game part is simple, but many will never get that far to see it. This game could have been far better if it was easier, and the sprite collision wasn’t so terrible…
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Using a lot of saved games and bashing my head against the computer desk every few minutes.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Between levels you get to see the part of the blueprint that you have collected. Once level eight is complete you get to see the full blueprint, this time with the words ‘Well done. You have completed Sabotage’, written below it. The game then jumps to the high score table before restarting.
Neil: This one was a tough cookie. The game is rock hard, so I doubt anyone has seen this ending. I don’t think the programmer expected anyone to get that far. Maybe that’s why it is so crap. 2/10.
Vinny: I’m one of those gamers who gave up on this one because it was far too tough. What on EARTH did the code think he was doing when he built such a tough game?! I think ZZAP!64 magazine where certainly trying to say something when they awarded this an overall score of 23% (oh dear!).
As for the ending… I would have been seriously peed off if I had played through all eight stages and then been presented with this! What an opportunity missed to give the player a gratifying ending 😦 2/10 from me too.
Andrew Fisher: One of Zeppelin’s earliest efforts, but it was outshone by the brilliant Zybex. Tough is definitely the word, and tough luck if you persevered to see that at the end.
Andy Vaisey: Wow! Battle through a solid game and get a slap in the face at the end!
Gaz Spence: Can’t say I’ve come across the game before but it looks very bland as does the ending.
FINAL SAY: You’re having a laugh…. surely…
